What Does "Public Link" Mean?

Understand what a public video link is, how to find one, and why SaveVideoDown only supports public links from supported platforms.

Definition of a public link

A public link is a URL that anyone can open in a browser without logging in, joining a group, or having special permission.

If a link opens the video or post normally in a private browser window (incognito mode), it is public.

If you see a login screen, an error message, or a paywall when opening the link, the content is private or restricted.

  • Open the link in a private browser window to test if it is public.
  • Copy the link from the platform share button or the browser address bar.
  • Do not paste profile links β€” paste the link to the specific post or video.

Why SaveVideoDown supports public links only

SaveVideoDown does not log in to any social media account. It cannot access content that requires authentication.

This protects the privacy of content creators and ensures the tool is used only for permitted purposes.
